Jazz Musician. A drummer, he began playing professionally during his mid teenage years and moved to New York, where he studied at The Juilliard School. He widened his performance skills with Winton Marsalis and Roy Hargrove, prior to forming the "Aaron Diehl Trio" with fellow Juilliard School attendee Aaron Diehl. Leathers achieved further stardom as a member of singer Cecile McLorin Savlant's music ensemble and received Grammy Awards for his contributions to the albums "For One to Love" (2015) and "Dreams and Daggers" (2016). He was murdered in his New York apartment building during a violent domestic relationship altercation.
