Albert Baker Steinhauser was born November 15, 1863 in Mount Kisco, Westchester, NY; the first of two children born to John Steinhauser And Ellen O'Neill Steinhauser.

In about 1890, Albert went to work at the Metropolitan Museum of Art as an attendant. Around the same time he married his first wife, Margaret Anne McCabe, an immigrant from Cootehill, Ireland.

Albert B. and Margaret Steinhauser had three children:

Herbert John Steinhauser (1892-1963)
Albert Leo Steinhauser (1895-1962)
Alther Frances Steinhauser-Wirsing (1900-1976)

The family resided at 1408 Commonwealth Avenue in the Bronx.

Margaret died September 13, 1926, and in December of 1928, Albert married Harriet Elizabeth Adams. The couple lived in the Bronx for a time until moving to Beach Lake, PA where Albert died on March 24, 1945.
