The film achieved much success both in Japan and in the United States after its heavily-edited English version was released in 1954. Kochi was afterward typecast in science fiction films, including in "Half Human" (1955) and "The Mysterians" (1957). She also performed as a stage actress in various Shakespeare plays and has worked on television series and in commercials. She married Sadataki Hisamatsu in 1961 and had one daughter, Emiko. She was diagnosed with colon cancer in January 1998 and died of that disease in November of the same year.
