OGDEN – Dale Earl Groves, 82, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2003 at his home.
He was born September 3, 1920 in Elm Grove, Iowa to Earl and Elsie Scott Groves. Dale was educated in Iowa, Nebraska and Utah. He married Darlene Johnson in 1944, they had two children together and later divorced. He married Pat Daley in 1962, they had one daughter, she preceded him in death in 1988. He then married Ann Sargent in September 1993.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1940 thru 1945. He served six years overseas with the Army Air Corps as a B-17 Bombardier with the 452nd Bomb Group of the Eighth Air Force. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Metal with three Oak Leaf Clusters and five Bronze Stars.
Dale was a member of the First Christian Church. He had been employed as an Internal Revenue agent, and a cost analyst with Thiokol Corp from where he retired in 1989. He was also owner/operator of his own tax preparation business where he made many good friends.
He loved playing the guitar and singing as a youth in Iowa, he sang frequently at the functions at the county schoolhouse. He also sang in the church choir and was a Sunday School Teacher.
He enjoyed fishing, golf, and animals. He was a kind and gentle and generous man.
Surviving are his wife, Ann Groves of Ogden; children, Diane Young, Springville, UT; Carolyn (Dee) Choate, Riverdale, UT; Theresa Christensen, Ames, IA; step-children, Wayne "Bud" (Debbie) Sargent, Roy, UT; Mickey (Jerry) Smith, Taylor, UT; Keith (Mary Ann) Sargent, Ogden, UT; 23 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and two sisters.
