Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Anthony B. and Gloria M. (Dorney) Lord.
Richard was employed as a campus police officer for over 30 years at the Johnson & Wales University in Providence before retiring in 2015. Richard was well-liked by the students and he was affectionately referred to as “Pops” . He later drove a shuttle bus for the employees of the Department of Environmental Management and for DCYF.
Richard had been a volunteer firefighter with the Hopkins Hill Fire Department for many years. Also, Richard was a lead vocalist and guitar player in a locally known rock ‘n’ roll band entertaining at many weddings.
He was the father of Alyssa L. Kacharo of Coventry, Richard J. Lord Jr. of Coventry, and Kristin M. Selwyn and her husband Brian of Warwick. Richard was the grandfather of Joshua Kacharo, Cameron Lord, Makayla Selwyn, Sofia Selwyn and Anthony Lord. Richard was the brother-in-law of Joyce Card.
His funeral will be Thursday, June 6, 2019 at 9:00 am from the Iannotti Funeral Home, 415 Washington St., (Rte.117) Coventry, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saints John & Paul Church. Interment at Saint Joseph Cemetery, West Greenwich.
