Watford G. Seguin, Sr., 79, died Friday at The Clairemont. He was a lifelong resident of the town of Pleasant Valley where he married Beatrice Ryder June 24, 1936.

He farmed and was recognized by the University of Wisconsin for outstanding contributions to agriculture, served on the Wisconsin Conservation Committee and received conservation awards.

Seguin served for 39 years on Eau Claire school boards. For 15 years, he served on the board of the one-room school he attended as a youth. He then was chairman of the Eau Claire School Committee for nine years, where he participated in assigning all county one-room schools into high school districts. In 1961, with the demise of one-room schools in Eau Claire County, he was elected to the Eau Claire school board, a post he retained for 15 years.

He also began the Eau Claire County Farm Supply Cooperative in 1945 and served on the board of Northern States Power Co. for 16 years.

Survivors include three sons, Watford, Larry, both town of Pleasant Valley, James, Alma Center; three sisters, Esther Saugen, Mary Neal both of Tacoma, Wash., Edwina Cotton, Chippewa Falls; and 10 grandchildren.

Services Wednesday at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, with burial in Union Cemetery.
