Together for 72 years, former Waukesha residents Paul and Patti Davies of New Port Richey, Florida, passed away within three days of each other in late January and early February of this year. Patti’s passing was on January 30, 2019. Paul passed shortly thereafter on February 2, 2019.

Paul was born on December 2, 1923. He was the son of Zachariah and Myrtle Davies, also of Waukesha.

Patti was born on March 17, 1926. She was the daughter George and Ethel Kraus of Wauwatosa.

Paul graduated from Waukesha High School in 1941 and served his country as a United States Army Air Force pilot from 1943 to 1946. He flew 25 combat missions in the South Pacific during World War II piloting a B-24 bomber.

Paul was honorably discharged and returned to Carrol College in Waukesha, where he graduated magna cum laude with a major in business administration. He was heavily invested in the Waukesha community, having been elected to six terms as a city alderman and served ten years on the Waukesha Plan Commission. He was also appointed by three different mayors to numerous special committees.

Through his civic involvement, he was elected president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce where he received a Distinguished Service Award as Outstanding Young Man of the Year. Paul also received a Silver Beaver Award for his outstanding service to the Boy Scouts of America.

His service to the Waukesha community continued to grow as he became a member of the Community Chest Board of Directors and was named general chairman of the Carroll College Trailblazer Scholarship fund.

In 1963, he partnered with Paul Winchell, also of Waukesha, to form the Winchell-Davies Insurance Agency. During that year, Paul was narrowly defeated in an election to become mayor of Waukesha.

Recognized by many as a community leader, Paul became a member of the Board of Trustees of Waukesha Memorial Hospital and was elected chairman of the Board of Trustees where he served from 1976 to 1984. He also served on the Waukesha City Council from 1969-1984 and was a member of the Planning, Administration and Finance committees.

Various service agencies benefitted from Paul’s leadership including the Potawatomi Council of the Boy Scouts of America where he served as chairman, the Waukesha Noon Optimist Club where he served as president and the Waukesha Jaycees, also serving as president.

Patti was very active in the community through her involvement with the Waukesha Service Club. She served as president from 1980-1981. She also worked as a volunteer at the Waukesha Hospital Gift Shop and thrift store.

Paul and Patti were members of the First Presbyterian Church of Waukesha. In 1985, Paul and Patti retired and moved to New Port Richey, Fla., where they were members of the Westminster Presbyterian Church of New Port Richey.
