Norman Fristoe Allen was born on 9 Jan 1878 to Lingan B. Allen and Martha E. Allen in Norfolk, Virginia.

Norman was working as a lawyer in general practice when he married Bonnie Estelle Lewis Massey on 17 November 1913. By 1915, Norman, Estelle, and his step-son H Foster Massey had moved to the Roanoke, Virginia area.

A daughter, Mary Elizabeth Allen, was born to Norman and Estelle on 19 October 1915 in Roanoke, Virginia. They had a second daughter, Evelyn Louise Allen, who was born 8 Aug 1919 in Roanoke; but tragically, she did not live long, dying on 10 Oct 1919.

By 1947, Norman and Estelle were living in Snow Hill, Maryland, which is located on the Delmarva Peninsula. Norman died after a long illness in Deer's Head Hospital, Salisbury, Maryland on 8 May 1954.

Norman's obituary appeared in The Daily Times, Salisbury, Maryland, on 10 May 1954. According to this obituary, Norman was survived by wife Estelle; daughter Mrs. Emmanuel [sic] R. Zetlin of Seattle, Washington; step-son H Foster Massey in D. C.; two sisters: Mrs. E. L. Wright of Portsmouth, Va and Mrs. Louise A. Layne of Bluefield, West Virginia; and four grandsons.
