Theatrical Producer. Called the "Father of Vaudeville", he stopped the sale of liquor during performances and kicked prostitutes out of the balconies, and thereby legitimized theater as acceptable family entertainment. Best known as an impresario, he started the careers of Lillian Russell and Harrigan and Hart, and appeared in many of his own shows as a featured singer.
