Arthur Groves of Ponderosa Ridge, Ashland, Ky., died Monday evening Sept. 29, 2003, in King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. He was 72 years of age.
Mr. Groves was born May 29, 1931, in Ashland, a son of the late Richard Lindsay and Daisey Corey Groves.
He was an employee of Central Distributors, where he worked as a truck driver. He was also a member of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Myrtle Blair Groves; eight sons, Joe Groves and his wife, Sue, of Catlettsburg, Ky., Ricky Groves and his wife, Connie, of Westwood, Ky., Arte Groves and his wife, Paula, Arnold Groves, Robert Groves, David Groves and Jerry Groves and his wife Lisa, all of Ashland, and Archie Groves of Summit, Ky.; four daughters, Sandy lanes and her fiancé, Edward, of Nashville, Tenn., Patty Mercer and her husband sonny, of Kenton, Ohio, Kathy Presley and her husband, Jim of Webbville, Ky., and Jeannie Groves of Summit; two brothers, Don Groves of Rush, Ky., and Mike Groves of Ashland; one sister, Debby fryer of Ashland; 23 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Besides his father and mother, Mr. Groves was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Groves and Richard Groves.
A funeral service in honor of Mr. Groves will be Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at 1 p.m. at Kilgore 7 Collier Funeral Home in Catlettsburg. Bill Spears will deliver a message of Comfort. Burial will follow in Groves Family Cemetery in Catlettsburg.
Visitation is Thursday evening between 6 and 8 p.m. for family and friends.
