Kathryn was a 1948 graduate of Winston County High School. She received her B.S. degree from Auburn University in 1952 and began work with the Department of Pensions and Security in Phenix City, AL. Following her 1955 marriage to J.N. Bailey, Jr., Kathryn came home to Double Springs and worked for what is now the Winston County Department of Human Resources. Upon completing her Master of Arts and A.A. degrees at the University of Alabama, she later taught Special Education and reading at Double Springs Elementary School. She retired as Special Education Coordinator for the Winston County Board of Education in 1998.
Outside the professional arena, she was the 1968 recipient of Winston County High School's Outstanding Alumnus Award. Twice President of the Double Springs Study Club and named their 2003 Woman of Distinction, she also was active in the Winston County Retired Teachers' Association and Alpha Delta Kappa Professional Educational Society. A member of Double Springs First Baptist Church, Kathryn taught Sunday School for approximately thirty years. She performed community service at Hendrix Heath Care Facility, the Seymour Home, and was diligent in visiting the shut-in and ill of the community.
Kathryn was predeceased by parents Olin and Kate Burdick Hilton, husband J.N. Bailey, Jr. and infant daughter Kathryn Leighanne Bailey. She is survived by sons Brad, Brent (Rachel) and grandchildren Lisa (Brian Hixon), John, and Bonnie Bailey.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 3, 2019 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Double Springs, where the service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be at Double Springs Memorial (Cockrell-West) Cemetery.
