Charles William “Chuck” Bolton, 89, passed away Friday, May 31, 2019, at home with family at his side.

Charles was born Jan. 31, 1930 in Sedalia, Mo., the son of Charles H. Bolton and Edna Anna (Imhauser) Bolton. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1948 and, following four years of service as a Navy aviator, was honorably discharged in 1954 as a petty officer third class. He attended Central Missouri State University and was later awarded a bachelor’s degree in business in 1956 from Washburn University, Topeka, Kan.

Charles was united in marriage with Lucille Corinne Bernard on Jan. 10, 1953 in Manchester, N.H. They celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary before his beloved Lucille passed on Feb. 21, 2015. During a career that spanned 45 years Charles worked as a cook at Yellowstone National Park, a school photographer, and held several jobs in sales and sales management before returning to Warrensburg to work at the University of Central Missouri. He retired from the university in 1991.

Charles was an avid fisherman who taught three generations the meaning of the proverb: 'Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.' He was passionate about genealogy, traveling to ancestral landmarks in the U.S. and Ireland dating to the 1600s. He published a family history, “The Bolton’s Way” in 2007. A devote Catholic, active in Catholic Charities and a pre-marriage counselor, he was baptized at Sacred Heart Church in Sedalia and received last rites at Sacred Heart in Warrensburg.

Charles fathered seven children. He is grandfather to 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is survived by four sons, Daniel William Bolton and wife Susan, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Charles Roger Bolton and wife, Paula, of Wichita, Kan., Michael Stephen Bolton and wife, Cheryl, of Shawnee, Kan., and David Alan Bolton and wife, Jodi, of Nixa, Mo.; three daughters, Ann Michelle Bolton of Wichita, Kan., Suzanne Denise Rouge of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Nancy Kathleen Langdon of Indianapolis, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1975, his sister Mary Rosalie Burlette in 1984 and his mother in 1993. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warrensburg with Father Joe Bathke officiating.

Interment will follow in the section dedicated to seven generations of the Bolton family at Calvary Cemetery, north of Sedalia.

A rosary service will begin at 6 p.m on Tuesday, June 4, at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg, and the family will receive friends following the rosary until 7:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Catholic Charities and can be left in care of the funeral home.
