LAKEVIEW, July 24 - Grover F. Johnston, 52, a retired Columbus city fireman, died yesterday afternoon of a heart attack at Russells Point, where he had been living since his retirement last December. He had been in ill health for several months.

Johnston collapsed about four blocks from his home and was carried into the cottage of Fred Sinclair, also a retired Columbus fireman, where he died. With him when he died were his wife, Ruth, and Capt. Edward Grover, another retired Columbus fireman.

A native of Columbus, Johnston served in the fire department for more than 30 years.

Surviving besides his wife are three daughters and a son, Mrs. Helen Howser of Portsmouth, Mrs. Jeannette Ammel, Frank and Lucille Johnston, all of Columbus; his step-mother, Mrs. Eva Johnston of Columbus and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Van Horn funeral home with Rev. Loren Heacock, of the Lakeview Methodist church, officiating. Burial will be in the Huntsville cemetery.
