May 28, 2019 James Dean (Jimmy) Tyree, 63, of Roanoke, Va., passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, May 28, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen Edward and Sally Marie Tyree. Jimmy is survived by his wife of 41 years, Betty Norris Tyree; three sons, Alexander York, Samuel Grubb and wife , Amanda, and John Ballard Columbus Tyree; daughter, Rebecca Norris Tyree; grandson, Logan James Tyree; brother, Barry and wife, Donna Tyree; two sisters, Cheryl and husband, Ricky Bowdel, and Rhonda and husband, Donnie Wray; 15 nieces and nephews; and 15 great-nieces and nephews. Jimmy retired from the Roanoke City School System and in his pursuit of the best deals, worked part time at Kroger. There were countless benefactors of his generosity around town, he would frequent all of his favorite stores and restaurants to provide candy to the wait staff and cashiers. He was also known for his coveted pound cakes, around the holiday's you could always count on a pound cake or two at any celebration, you could also count on large chunks being cut and hoarded in guest's cars before the event was over. The family will receive guests from 3 until 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2019, at Oakey's South Chapel on Brambleton Avenue, Roanoke. Casual attire requested. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to Project Healing Waters, the Special Olympics, or your favorite charity. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.oakeys.com.
