Mary Helen Kirby, 76, of Slater, Missouri, died Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri.

Born May 27, 1943 in Kansas City, Kansas, she was the daughter of the late David O. and Frances Bichelmeyer Smith. On June 5th, 1965 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slater, she married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, and he survives of the home. Together they raised three children in Slater with a dedicated faith, love, and continuous laughter.

Also surviving is a son; and two daughters. She had a special place in her heart for her seven grandchildren. Other surviving family members are two brothers; and three sisters. She was preceded in death by a brother, Mike Smith; and a sister, Barbara Singer.

Mary Helen was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slater, and the Church's Quilting Group. She was a 1961 graduate of Slater High School, and attended the University of Missouri-Columbia. She was a member of the 401 Couples Club.

Mary Helen lived her life with a spirited and open heart for adventure, near and far. She loved to travel to new locations, attend as many grandchildren's actives as possible, and cheer on the Missouri Tigers. She was well known and celebrated for her creative talents, having an eye for beautiful things, gardening, her smart fashion sense and sparkly accessories when an outfit needed a little bling. In the past few years, she developed a passion for quilting and making jewelry. She was always developing a new craft to share with her family and friends. She was an entrepreneur in both real estate and antique dealings. She had her Real Estate Broker's license and owned and operated Kirby Realty for several years. Most important of all, she was a happy wife, whom she was both grateful for and proud of throughout their commitment to share life's journey together for fifty-three years. She will be genuinely missed by all of her family and friends.
