John Dee Cromwell was born in Hardin County, Tennessee on December 21, 1933, the son of the late Jack and Annie Horton Cromwell. On February 28, 1998, he was united in marriage to Mary Joyce Hamilton-Blount, who survives. John departed this life on May 29, 2019, at the age of 85 years, 5 months, and 8 days.

John served his country in the United States Army for 25 years until his retirement on September 1, 1972. Following his service, he worked for the United States Postal Service in Memphis, Tennessee for 25 years. John was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Collierville, Tennessee. He was very proud of his military service and his work with the church. John loved donating to charities due to his love of helping others, and he was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.

In addition to his wife of 21 years, John is survived by his sister, Jane Cross and husband Howard of Murray, Kentucky; stepsons, Donald Blount and wife Mary Jo and Daryl Blount, all of Savannah, Tennessee; stepdaughters, Gina Doran of Savannah, Tennessee and Jana Wetzel and husband Stewart of Madison, Alabama; niece, Lori Morris and husband Eddie of Murray, Kentucky; nephew, Brian Cromwell of Florida; great niece, Chelsea and husband Chase; great nephews, Riggins and Rhett; step-grandchildren, Brinn, Amber, Candra, Lindsay, Brad, Christa, Cassie, Nick, April, and Chloe; and step-great-grandchildren, Baze, Westin, Madilyn, Addie, Reed, Hayden, Caisley, Colt, Walker, Carson, Allison, Elizabeth, Caroline, Lilly, Ajay, Maddox, Allie, Bella, Jones, and Colton.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brothers, Billy Carl Cromwell and wife Rachel, Ellis Cromwell and wife Mary, and Warren G. Cromwell; sister, Jo E. Stanfield and husband James D.; and step-great-grandchild, Remmy Kate.
