Everett M. Kompelien, 82, of Harlingen, TX, formerly of Thief River Falls, MN, passed away at Solara Hospital in Harlingen, TX, on Sunday, May 26, 2019.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM on Monday, June 10, 2019 at Evangelical Free Church, Thief River Falls, MN with Pastors: Kevin Kompelien, Brent Kompelien, Kevin MacLean and Kent Hudson officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at Evangelical Free Church, Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.

Everett M. Kompelien was born December 23, 1936 at Thief River Falls, MN, the son of Oluf and Bella (Rensla) Kompelien. He grew up and attended Lincoln High School, graduating in 1954. He attended Trinity College in Chicago, IL and Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND.

On August 25, 1956, Everett was united in marriage to Arlette Moe. That same year he started working as a filing clerk in the credit department of L.B. Hartz Wholesale Inc. He was appointed office manager in 1974. He advanced to Corporate Secretary, then Administrative Vice President and retired as President in January 1992, after working at Hartz Foods Inc for 36 ½ years. After his retirement, Everett and Arlette started spending winters in Harlingen, TX. After a lengthy illness, Arlette passed away on May 14, 2012 with Everett by her side.

Everett held many different offices at Evangelical Free Church and chaired the church board of Sunshine Park Church in Harlingen, TX. He enjoyed music and belonged to the church choirs in Thief River Falls and Harlingen, and sang with “King’s Men” gospel group for 12 years. He also sang duets with his wife, and Barber Shop including the “Quarter-Notes” in Texas. He spent 8 years as a member of the Minnesota Grocers Association’s Board of Directors and was a Lion’s Club member for many years. He was a former member of the Curling Club and SPEBSQSA (Barber Shop Quartet Singers). He enjoyed fishing at their Island Lake cabin in Minnesota.

On March 24, 2013 Everett married Emalie in Harlingen, TX. They wintered there for the past several years and spent summers in Springfield, MO.

Survivors include his children, Kevin (Becky), Konnie (Kent) and Ken (Jan); his wife, Emalie and her family; grandchildren, Todd (Cortney), Trent (Kelly), Trevor (Joy), Ruth (Kyle), Bradley (Paige), Brent (Sarah), Gregory (Alyssa), Emily (Jeff), Scott (Jeena) and Melissa; fourteen great-grandchildren; sister, Pearl Ramsland; and many other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by wife, Arlette; parents; infant brother, Orlando; brother, Silas; sister, Orlanda Eriksson and grandparents.
