Sara Sparks
~ Sara Emma Gettys Sparks, 82, formerly of Chesnee Highway, died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998, in Peachtree Centre.
~ A native of Gaffney, she was the daugher of the late Miles Elijah and Dora Carlton Gettys. She was a former bookkeeper at Gettys Lumber Co., attended Stratford Hall in Danville, Va., and was a former member of Gaffney Business and Professional Women's Club. She was a member of Grassy Pond Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher, assistant librarian and Training Union teacher. She was predeceased by a son, Lyman Melton Sparks jr.
~ Survivors include three daughers, Ann Dora Hiers and Joyce Coyle, both of Gaffney, and Barbara Harrs of Greenville; one son, Charles Gettys Sparks of Spartanburg; one sister, Lucille LeMaster of Gaffney, nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
~ Services were held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Grassy Pond Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Roger Aycock. Burial was in the church cemetery.
~ Pallbearers were Henry Gettys, Miles Getty III, Tommy LeMaster, Haile LeMaster Jr., Donnie Morgan and Barry Morgan.
~ The family is at the residence of Ann Dora Hiers, 315 Cherokee National Hwy., Gaffney.
~ Memorials may be made to Grassy Pond Church Family Life Center Fund, 254 Grassy Pond Rd., Gaffney, S.C. 29341.
~ Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home was in charge.
