Mrs. Mary Jane Hotz.
A wide circle of acquaintance was shocked to learn of the death of Mrs. Mary Jane Hotz, beloved wife of Phillip Hotz, which occurred at the family home, No. 114 Auriles street, last Monday night. The cause of death was pneumonia, from which she had suffered one week.
Mrs. Hotz was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kirkland and was born in Mifflin township on June 17, 1858. She had spent her entire life in this vicinity and was widely known. She was a member of the Presbyterian church of this city and held the esteem of all who knew her. She had been married twice and one son survived the last union. He is Chester H. Hotz. Surviving children of the first union are Robert S. McClelland, Mrs. Fred Delo, Mrs. Benjamin Stewart and Mrs. Grover Kelly, all of this city, and Wm. B. McClelland of Homestead. One brother and one sister also survive, Abiron [sic] Kirkland and Mrs. George Cox, both of Homestead.
Impressive funeral services were conducted yesterday afternoon at the family home and were largely attended. Rev. W. F. Silveus, pastor of the Presbyterian church was in charge. The remains were laid to rest in Richland cemetery. (Source: Duquesne Times, February 21, 1919, page 14
