Helen Maxine (Davidson) DuBose Distefano Hutson

Helen was born the daughter of the late Nanny Anice (Bean) and James Robert Davidson. She passed away at Pinecrest Retirement Community. Her funeral service will be in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Helen was preceded in death by her 3 husbands: T. J. DuBose, Victor Distefano and Robert Vance Hutson; her daughter, Linda Kleck; and her parents.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Brenda Trevino; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hutson was a caregiver. She was the first to respond when someone was sick or went into the hospital – to sit with, cook for and gave a lot of advice on how to get well, recover and stay well. She always cooked “from scratch” chicken and dumplings and Pineapple 7-Up cake. She loved it when her sisters and all the children would get together for a meal. Everyone would bring a dish and the visiting would begin. All the kids were sent outside to play together.
Mrs. Hutson worked at Atkinson Candy Company, side by side with Brenda and Linda’s dad, T. J. DuBose, for 25 years. In time, both Brenda and Linda joined them to work with Atkinsons. After T. J. had a heart attack and was told to stop smoking (Mother smoked also), she quit “cold turkey” and proceeded to advise T. J. how to stop smoking just as easy – but he couldn’t. She lost T. J. and her daughter Linda Kleck to heart attacks from smoking.
She next worked in a grocery store deli (cooking) and met and later married Vick Distefano. They were married for 5 short years and he taught her to cook spaghetti and meatballs from scratch. Unfortunately, he became sick with cancer and she spent all her time lovingly taking care of his needs prior to his death. Then Vick’s best friend, Robert Hutson, asked for Helen’s hand in marriage. He said he had admired her caregiving ways. Robert talked with Brenda and promised to take care of Helen til her death, which he did. They moved into Pinecrest Retirement Community as the first couple to move in when it was built – June 2, 1992. Robert passed away on November 5, 2001 from cancer and Helen was by his side to the last day. They were married 12 years.
Then on March 14, 2007, Helen was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. Robert Hutson’s son, Robert Earl Hutson, continued with her care for 12 years, to fulfill his father’s wishes. Helen lived at Pinecrest for 27 years until her death on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 when she went to be with her God in Heaven to get a new body and join all her loved ones waiting for her. She can rest now, God is and always has been her Caregiver.
