Obituary:
Age 97, of Maple Grove Township, passed away on Ash Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Saginaw, Mi.

Helen was born on April 18, 1920 to Paul and Amelia (Reckart) Klein in Maple Grove Township. Helen graduated from High School as the Valedictorian of her class. She then worked at Redmond’s, a small shop in Owosso.

Helen married John Bishop on October 18, 1941 at St. Michael’s Church. He preceded her in death on April 14, 1991. Helen and John owned and operated Johnny's Party Store and Restaurant near Layton Corners for many years. She was a lifelong member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Altar Society, and League of Catholic Women. She spent her earlier married life as a nurturing homemaker raising 10 children and working on the family farm. Helen was the loving matriarch of her family. She enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, and sewing. She was very crafty and until recently, made book marks, pot holders, and worked at many other projects. She loved the visits of friends and family… especially her grandchildren. Now each and every Valentine’s Day her memory will hold a special place in their hearts.

Helen is survived by her children, Judy Birchmeier, Bob (Kathy) Bishop, Ed (Diane) Bishop, Becky (Bill) Bodnar, Sandy (Rick) Damveld, and Jackie Harris; Daughters-in-law Harriett Bishop, and Eydie Bishop; her 37 grandchildren, 89 great grandchildren, and her dear friend, Marie Wrocklage.

She is predeceased by her husband, John Bishop; her children: Bernie, Ray, and Chery Bishop, and Linda Jordan; her grandson, Jonathan Harris; her son-in-law, Ernie Birchmeier; her 5 siblings, Mrs. Mildred Singer Zvonek, Mrs. Richard (Ladonna) Weisenberger, Mrs. Harvey (Sis) Wendling, Mrs. Silvester ( Dorothy) Deitering, and Mr. Eugene ( Jeanette) Klein.

A mass of Christian burial will held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 19, 2018 at St Michael’s Catholic Church of Maple Grove with Father John Cotter and Father Bob Byrne concelebrating. Burial will follow at St Michael's Cemetery.
