She worked out of her home as a beautician and a child day-care provider for many years. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Elyria where she served on the usher board and belonged to United Methodist Women. Mrs. Stewart was also a member of Pride of Norwood 127 Order of Eastern Star in Norwood and enjoyed attending Bible studies, quilting, crocheting and singing.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Alice W. and Utron Crook of Elyria, Ella M. and Andrew Giles of Toledo, Ohio, and Julia A. and James Patton of Elyria; sons and daughters-in-law, Stafford Jr. and Jo-Ann Stewart and Jack L. Stewart, all of Elyria; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; sister, Lillie Mae Richard of Port Arthur, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by her husband, Stafford W. Stewart, who died in 1981; brothers, Thomas and John Carruth; father, Loveless Williams; mother, Julia Mayhall Carruth; and step-father, Thomas Carruth Sr.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 5, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria. Visitation will also be from 10 a.m. until a funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1611 Middle Ave., Elyria. Carlton J. Shumate, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
