Her parents were John and Eunice Barnes, and she was the first of four children. The family moved to Richmond, VA, in 1955 where she attended Hermitage High School and graduated in 1958. She attended RPI College (now VCU) in Richmond, VA, studying art, followed by a promising career as a graphic designer. She met Butch Miller in high school and married him in 1963. They moved the family to Ohio and New Jersey and settled in Atlanta, GA, in 1975. She leaves her son, Eric Miller (Claudia); daughter, Ashley Miller; three granddaughters, Malayna Miller, Sophia Miller, and Cassidy Miller; brothers Steve Barnes and David Barnes; and sister, Nancy Hughes.
