Obituary for Harold Leslie Freemyer

Harold Leslie Freemyer, age 82, of Clearfield, Iowa, formerly of Pleasantville, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2019 at the Hospice Comfort House in Pella.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at the Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville, beginning at 4:00 P.M. Harold’s family will be present to greet friends and relatives from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. A funeral service will be held Friday, May 31, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at the Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville, with Pastor Andrew Bardole officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Knoxville. Following the luncheon, a graveside service will be held at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Blockton, Iowa at 2:30 P.M.

Harold was born on July 28, 1936 in Sheridan, Missouri, the son of William and Opal (Deardorff) Freemyer. His family later moved to Blockton, Iowa. Harold attended and graduated from Blockton High School.

Harold was united in marriage in 1956 to Minnie Ellen Key. They later divorced and Harold was remarried to Harriett Ann Older on May 31, 1968. They enjoyed over 37 years of marriage, before her passing on April 18, 2005. After Harriett’s passing, Harold had a companion, Enid Grundman. They enjoyed each other’s company for 10 years, until her passing.

Harold drove a milk truck for several years; he also worked for the Tot System as a dispatcher; and for the Gas Company. In 1973, he moved his family to Pleasantville. He spent over 30 years working for the Contel Telephone Company, where he retired. After retiring, he worked for Great Plains Locating.

Harold enjoyed fishing, gardening, and raising small farm animals on his acreage. He also enjoyed spending time with his family.

Those left to cherish Harold’s memory include his children, Randy (Denise) Emal of Knoxville, Randall (Cynthia Stickel) Freemyer of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Mark Freemyer of Des Moines, and Lisa Freemyer of Des Moines, one brother, Wesley Freemyer of Glenwood, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Harold is preceded in death by his parents, William and Opal Freemyer; wives, Minnie (Key) and Harriett (Older) Freemyer; son, Jeffrey Emal; grandson, Michael Emal; sisters, Eileen Matheny and Donna Stewart-Grey; and companion, Enid Grundman.
