Aaron Phinehas Oglesbee

Aaron grew up in the South during the Great Depression; however, he and his family were wealthy in their love for each other and their faith in the God they served. Like his father who pastored, Aaron felt a call to the ministry, and at the age of 17 he left Louisiana to attend Apostolic Bible College in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He excelled in college, becoming president of the Class of 1948. Following graduation and his ordination, he moved to Gallup, New Mexico to work in the church’s ministries there.
While in New Mexico, Aaron corresponded with a lovely young woman, Betty Jo Myers, whom he’d met at college. Their friendship in school grew into something more after graduation, and in one of his letters, Aaron proposed to Betty, who by then was working with the church in Maine. He asked her to join him as his wife and partner in ministry. On January 7, 1949, they were married in Betty’s hometown of Columbus, Indiana and left the next day to take up their posting in New Mexico. Over the course of their 65 years in marriage and ministry, Aaron and Betty pastored churches in Columbus, Indiana (Apostolic Tabernacle, Faith Temple), Baker City, Oregon (Agape Christian Center) and Klamath Falls (Faith Tabernacle). They also served as missionaries in Nuevo Leon, Mexico. For several years, Aaron and Betty owned a farm in the Willamette Valley where they cared for and ministered to women needing spiritual and material shelter.
In 2004, Betty was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease requiring Aaron to retire from full time ministry and devote himself to caring for her. They moved to Aaron’s hometown of Eros, Louisiana and took up residence in the house that Aaron’s grandparents had built and lived in early in the last century. It was there that he cared for Betty himself until her passing.
In 2015, Aaron married Janese. Their marriage, as well, was one grounded in shared faith and love. Miss Janese, blessed with a giving heart and a wonderful sense of humor, was a joy to Aaron. She was at his side at his passing.
Aaron had multiple interests and talents. Over the years, he built several homes. He also loved anything to do with aviation and in his younger years was an adventurous pilot who was known to occasionally challenge the structural properties of his aircraft. Much later in his life, his favorite pastime was cutting firewood. He was known to have several cords of wood that he had split by hand stashed away in various out buildings. Only in the last few years of his life did he grudgingly concede to using a hydraulic wood splitter.
In addition to his wife, Janese, Aaron is survived by his five children: Nate (Pam) Oglesbee of Milford, Indiana; Rachael (Steve) Phillips of Upland, Indiana; Janice (Jim) Oglesbee of Augusta, Georgia; Keith (Vickie) Oglesbee of Decatur, Alabama and Jonathan Oglesbee of Baker City, Oregon. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and two sisters.
The family would like to thank and acknowledge our cousins – especially Michelle & Wayne Whitman, Tanya & James Sims and Greg & Leann Freeland - for their kindness and assistance to our parents during the last years of their lives.

Funeral services are set for 1:00PM at Hilltop with Reverend Micky Parker officiating. Interment will follow in Salem Cemetery in Eros, LA under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.
