Washington- Jerry “Steven” McCrary, 68, passed away, May 25, 2019, at Randolph Hospice Home.

Born December 31, 1950, in Davidson County, NC, he was the son of the late Foster Grant McCrary, and Audrey Hyatt McCrary.

Steven graduated from North Davidson High School, and went on to obtain an Associates Degree. He served in the Army National Guard and later worked with McCray Bros House Movers. He enjoyed reading and studying the Bible and was a part of the Methodist faith. He liked watching college basketball. Steven was a writer, and wrote short stories and poetry. He even had some of his poems published.

He is survived by his children, Scott McCrary (Amanda), and Tracey McGrath (Scott); siblings, Richard McCrary (Ann), Patsy Salmon (Billy), Walter McCrary (Shirley), Ralph McCrary, Ronnie McCrary (Janelle), Lynn McCrary (Beth), and Janice Patton (Jerry); grandchildren, Kenny, Billy, Noah and Benjamin McCrary, Cole and Hayden Sims, and Hazel McGrath; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Pansy Maxine McCrary; niece, Jettie Patton; and great nephew, SPC Thomas Harmon.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Flag Springs United Methodist Church, 5852 Zoo Parkway, Asheboro, NC 27205. Services entrusted to Midstate Cremation & Funeral Service.
