Obituary for Dennis Sanford Payne
Dennis Sanford Payne, 72, of Marietta, GA passed away on Monday, February 25, 2019 in Marietta, GA. The funeral service will take place on Friday, March 1, 2019 at 1 pm with Pastor Tim Childers presiding at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home & Crematory – Historic Marietta Chapel.
Dennis is survived by his wife Patty Payne; sister Sonja Griffin(Roy) & brother Keith Payne(Susan); son Clint Payne(Faith) & daughter Sheri Sargent(Charles); step-daughters Wendy Maxwell(Wayne), Mendy White(Jim), and Cendy Black; grandsons Greyson Payne, Kendrick Sargent, Trey White, Austin Maxwell, and Chandler Maxwell; granddaughters Hannah Sargent, Hailey Sargent, Alisa Houston(Robert), Hayley Saggesse(Peter), and Madison Hornsby(Doug); great-grandson Carson Hornsby; great-granddaughters Khloe Jones, Brynlee Houston, and Adalee Houston.
Dennis was born in Pell City, AL to William and Edith Payne. He attended The University of Georgia, played football for the university, and was a “dawg” through and through. Dennis worked for many years on the railroad as an engineer. He later went on to provide valiant service in Vietnam with the United States Marine Corps. Upon return he resumed work on the railroad and continued to nurture his love of sports and God. Dennis worked for many years to help create many foundations that hold up the organization known as GHSA and provided many years with the Atlanta Falcons. His love for the Lord was shown through is membership to GracePointe Marietta Baptist Church. Dennis Payne will be remembered for his incredible stories, long list of accomplishments, and most of all for the love and joy he brought to the world.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 1, 2019 between the hours of 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home & Crematory – Historic Marietta Chapel.
