Floy Laverne Bedwell Smith was born May 6, 1920, in Fort Worth to James M and Olive Waldie Bedwell and was one of 12 children. She was born a twin with brother, Joy Bedwell, who was killed in action in World War II. She married in 1940 to Sid Smith and in 1953, along with another couple opened the original Italian Inn Restaurant. The operation grew to seven restaurants located in Fort Worth, Dallas and Austin. After her divorce she opened the Italian Alley Restaurant. In 1970, she entered a new career in property management until her retirement in 2002. Survivors: Daughter, Janis Smith Shaffer of Dallas; granddaughter, Pamela Helgren Truscott of Dallas; sister Maurine Melton of Fort Worth.
