Martha was affectionately known as “The Hat Lady” and was rarely seen without a hat on her head or a smile on her face. She was a member of Emmanuel Church of Greenwood where she was a greeter for decades. She worked as a Bell Telephone operator right after graduating from Ben Davis High School. In later years she was a Welcome Wagon representative and worked for many years at L.S. Ayers in Greenwood Park Mall.
On November 17, 1945 she married her childhood sweetheart, Emory C. Turner, shortly after he returned home following the end of WW II. Martha was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 50 years, Emory C. Turner; daughter, Janet Turner; and second husband, Damon B. Meredith.
She is survived by children, Tim (Martha) Turner of Mooresville, Dan Turner of Indianapolis, Polly (Kevin) Shingleton of Indianapolis; grandchildren, David (Heather) Turner of Plainfield, Greg (Alicia) Turner of Greenwood, Paul (Lindsey) Turner of Franklin, Melody (Trevor) Anderson of Indianapolis, Noah Shingleton of Indianapolis, Jonah Shingleton of Indianapolis; 13 great-grandchildren; and step-children, Dennis (Anita) Meredith of Avon, Phyllis Steele of Plainfield, Janice (Darrel) Scott of Cincinnati, and Sandra (William) Rodenberg of Trafalgar.
Visitation will be held May 30, 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Forest Lawn Funeral Home - 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood, with services following at 12:00 noon. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens , Greenwood.
