G. W. Berry, of Orangeburg, South Carolina, died Friday, May 24, 2019, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at 11:00 am at the Dukes-Harley Funeral Home Chapel, Orangeburg, SC, with the Rev. Kenneth Hay officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
Born in Bergen County, NJ, G. W. was the son of the late George W. Berry of Carthage, NY and the late Marianna Dyches of North, SC. He is survived by his wife of thirty-three years, Susan Bragg Berry; sons, Gary William (Will) Berry and James Ryan Berry; sister, Sarah Godwin (John); brother, Dennis Berry; mother-in-law, Mary Santillanez; brother-in-law, Barry Bragg (Lillian); sister-in-law, Donna MacMath (Terry); and many nieces and nephews.
G. W. was the president of G. W. Berry Realty and Construction, Inc. since 1978. He served on the Orangeburg, Calhoun, Bamberg Home Builders Association Board and the SC Home Builders Association for many years. G. W. always wanted to see Orangeburg prosper; therefore, he spearheaded many civic projects and served on various other Boards in Orangeburg County.
G. W. lived life to the fullest, including being a tournament bass fisherman, pool player, and avid golfer. Along with his abundant stories and political opinions, his family will miss his kindness, his humor, and his wisdom.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to a local Orangeburg charity.
The family would like to thank Grove Park Hospice for their compassionate care.
