Born in Cornwall, Vermont to Hosea B and Elizabeth Ross. (Hosea was born in Sheldon, VT and was a farmer.)

Oliver's father Hosea would remarry to Ann (? b. in Crown Pt, NY) and Oliver then had a half-brother Hosea Bolton Ross, born in Cornwall, VT, 1866. Hosea Bolton Ross is found living in Whitehall NY in future census records. He is a barber. He died in Whitehall, NY in 1925, single.

The 1850 census shows the Ross family living in Cornwall, VT. Oliver is 9 and his sister Sarah is 1. They all live in the household of Nathan Ells, age 81.

Served in the Civil War as an Assistant Surgeon in the 8th Regiment, Vt. Infantry 1863 - 65.

An 1870 Vermont Census, shows Oliver E Ross, physician, living in the home of Charles Soper in Middlebury, VT. He is 29, single. This Census was taken in July of 1870, abt. 4 months before his marriage to Carrie Barrett, in Rockport, Maine.

In 1880, Oliver (MD) and Carrie live in the home of her parents: Charles and Abbie Barrett in Camden, Maine. Oliver is 38 and Carrie is 33. Also in the home is Carrie's sister Hattie. They have no children at this time.

At the time of his death, Dr. O E Ross, 49, is listed as being a 2 month resident of Sullivan's Island, of the city of Charleston, South Carolina. He died of 'brain congestion.' *

His last Will and Testament, a hand penned document, taking place in Moultrieville, Charleston County, South Carolina, 12 May 1890, states he is of sound mind and body and leaves to his half-brother Hosea B Ross, of Whitehall, New York, the sum of ten dollars. He leaves the remainder of his estate to his wife Carrie A Ross.
