Lt. Col. Michael Dennis Tate, USAF Retired, age 75, passed away on May 23, 2019 in Gulfport, MS.

Mr. Tate was a native of Ridge Farm, Illinois and was a resident of Gulfport, MS. He achieved a Bachelors of Arts in Industrial Psychology and a Master’s degree in Business. He served 22 years in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel Command Pilot. He was also the Instructor Pilot for the T38 Laredo, TX, flew the F-111 Aardvark Tactical Fighter Bomber, and served during the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. Among his many decorations, the most notable were Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Short Tour Overseas Medal, Air Force Longevity, and National Defense Service Medal.

After retiring from the Air Force, he continued his career as a pilot with Comair, also known as the Delta Connection. There, he worked from May 1990 to August 2003, achieving the level of Captain.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Betty Tate; and nephew, Will Tate.

He leaves behind his wife of 32 years, Deborah Ann Tate; daughter, Nicole Hahn (Richard); son, Jason Tate (Kari); nine siblings, Nancy Norman (Bob), Jay Tate (Terri), Jeff Tate (Janet), Kevin Tate (Carol), Kathy Ingram (Mike), Merry-Beth Agans (Dave), Mark Tate, Julie Norman (Greg), John Tate (Melissa); five grandchildren, Ethan Gallegos, Abbie Hahn, Dalton Hahn, Dane Tate, Reese Tate; aunt, Pat Newsome of Colorado; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mr. Tate enjoyed family gatherings, barbeques, gardening and cooking, and he supported the Disabled Veterans of America Association and the Humane Society of South Mississippi.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at 12:30 PM with visitation starting at 11 AM at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport. The interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Ave. Biloxi, MS.
