IRVINE, WALTER MURRAY - The passing of Walter Irvine, husband of Dorothy Courtney-Irvine (Oliver) occurred on Friday, November 9, 2012 at Ridgewood Veteran’s Wing. Walter was born on August 28, 1921 in Oromocto, N.B. to the late Joseph and Ester (Shaw) Irvine. He served with the Royal Canadian Navy for six years during World War II. Following the war, Walter worked as a bricklayer and was a champion boxer. He was inducted into the NB Sports Hall of Fame as the Maritime Welter Weight Champion. Walter was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing. Besides his wife Dorothy, Walter is survived by his step-mother, Ester (Steen) Irvine; brother, George (Shirley) and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; first wife, Beulah Campbell-Irvine; infant daughter, Carolyn; brother, Joseph and sisters: Helen Kelly, Hazel Ritchie-Miller, Alice Mullin and Jane Irvine.
Resting at Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, West Saint John (634-7425) with visitation on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm only. A Royal Canadian Legion Tribute Service will be held during visiting at 4:00 pm. The Funeral Service will be held from Bay View Chapel on Wednesday, November 13, 2012 at 10:00 am. Interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. For those who wish remembrances to Ridgewood Veteran’s Wing would be appreciated by the family.
