Born in Broad Top City, he was a son of the late Herbert Jesse and Grace Loretta (Fleck) Black. In 1963, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Dudley, he was united in marriage to the former Catherine Ann Marcocci, who survives.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Black is survived by daughters, Adele Black and fiancé Joseph Barcikowski II, and Anita (Black) Adams and husband, Sean; grandson, David “Derek” Simms and wife, Kayla; granddaughter, Georgia Mundy; great-grandson, Hank Simms; and numerous extended family members.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Doran and Olive Black.
Mr. Black was a member of the Raven Run Church of the Brethren, where he served on the church board.
Following high school, he was drafted into the United States Army from 1963 to 1965 during the Vietnam War and was discharged as an E-3.
Mr. Black was a member of the Broad Top Sportsman Club and was a former president of the Broad Top Medical Center.
He was a 1957 graduate of Robertsdale High School.
Following discharge from the Army he was employed by Bethlehem Steel, 56 Hot Strip Mill, later retiring from there as a foreman.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 25, at the Raven Run Church of the Brethren in Saxton with the Rev. Allan Baker officiating. Interment will take place in the IOOF Cemetery in Broad Top City with full military honors by the Broad Top Area Honor Guard.
Friends will be received at the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home Inc., Broad Top City, from 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 24.
