Fred Kenneth Lewis passed away on May 23, 2019 into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was born on January 29, 1923 to William and Viola Lewis in Lawton Oklahoma. Kenneth moved to Roswell when he was 16 years old and graduated from Roswell High School. In 1942 he joined the U.S. Army and proudly served until 1946. On June 9, 1946 he married the love of his life, Ruth Morgan (Lewis). They were married for 70 years until her passing on March 7, 2017.
Kenneth worked for Southwestern Public Service for 34 years as an electrical engineer. After retirement, they moved their RV to Mountain High RV Park in Alto, New Mexico. They loved going to the mountains and enjoyed their summers there for over 20 years where Kenneth’s favorite pastime was fishing. He taught all the kids and grandkids how to fish at Bonita Lake. The grandkids have many memories of camping and fishing as children. Now his great-grandchildren are also enjoying camping and fishing. Kenneth taught a Bible Study at Mountain High RV Park for many years. He enjoyed sharing his love for the Lord.
At the age of 12, Kenneth accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for 74 years where he was a Deacon and the Sunday School Treasurer. He taught many classes and many people about Christ.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents William Edward Lewis and Viola Tinkle Lewis, his wife Ruth Lewis, his sons William Morgan Lewis and Kenneth Wayne Lewis, and his infant grandson “Little Billy” Lewis.
Kenneth is survived by his daughters Pamela Pittman and husband Travis, and Suzanne Hughes and husband Russell. He is also survived by grandchildren Tim Pittman and wife Kathy, Kyle Pittman and wife Christy, Becky Cain and husband Russell, Jennifer Lewis, Amanda Lewis, Bryan Hughes and wife Melissa, Beth Hughes-Karnes and husband Jack, and great-grandchildren Austin and Jacob Pittman, Taylor and Madison Pittman, Jesse Cain, Jacob and Caleb Lewis, and Emma Karnes. His great-grandson Jesse loved to sit and listen to his “Poppy” tell stories of when he was in World War II. All the grandkids and great-grandkids enjoyed hearing his old stories, especially his fishing stories.
No services will be held per his wishes. A private family service will be held at a later date.
