Kathryn Mary Stamey Ballew, 91, of Hickory passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at Carolina Caring in Newton.

Kathryn was born in Burke County to the late Fredrick and Lilly Abee Stamey.

She married and raised her family there until moving to Catawba County with her husband in 1969. She worked various jobs throughout her life, and was noted in the community as a founding partner and operator of The Paige One restaurant.

Kathryn’s lifelong passions were shopping and dancing. She was known for her fashionable sense of style and always being beautifully dressed and put together, earning her the family nickname “Glamommy”.

In addition to her parents, Kathryn is preceded in death by her husband, William “Pete” Phifer Ballew and a number of sisters and brothers.

She is the loving and devoted mother of daughter Sandi Reynolds and husband Joe Reynolds and daughter Cathy Ballew, all of Hickory.

Kathryn also has grandchildren and great-grandchildren who love her dearly, granddaughter Paige Brigham of Hickory, grandson Dane Daugherty of Hickory, grandson Johnathan Daugherty and wife Heather Daugherty of Granite Falls, and four amazing great-grandsons Jacob Daugherty, Elijah Daugherty, Dawson Conner, Joseph Brigham.

Kathryn is also survived by her brother, James Stamey of Charlotte.

Kathryn’s family would like to give special thanks to family, friends, clergy, caregivers, neighbors and coworkers for all of your support, and especially the staff at Frye Regional Medical Center and Carolina Caring who gave such loving and gentle care to her and to us as we surrounded her with love. We will forever be grateful to you all.

Kathryn was a member of Corinth Reformed Church in Hickory, and a memorial service will be held in the main chapel at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2019.
