Husband of Elizabeth J Hedges.
PIONEERS OF 1844

from a FAG member:
Absolom Hedges crossed the plains as a pioneer, settling in Oregon prior to statehood. He obtained a Donation Land Grant that allowed him to control the portage route around Willamette Falls at Canemah OR. He built steamboats for navigating the river above and below the falls and became very wealthy. After a flood and the construction of navigation locks, he lost much of that wealth and had to sell off most of his land.
