Learned stone mason's trade and came with his father to Hardin county. Helped with construction of railroads.

"To Mr. and Mrs. Wilson were born five sons and three daughters of whom Mrs. Botkins is the only survivor. Their names in the order of their ages were August J., killed by the cars in Lima in 1895; Phoebe, who died about 1868; John M.; Elmer, who died about 30 years ago; George, who died about a year after Elmer's death; Belle; now Mrs. D.W. Botkin; two children died in infancy."
