Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 7, from 4 to 5 p.m., with services following at 5 p.m., at Sullivan-Ellis Mortuary, East Moline. The Rev. Ed Plemmons will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded.
Dorothy was born on April 18, 1921, in Ava, Mo., the daughter of Lewis R. and Tella Ethel Chamberlain Kitson. She married Victor Herren , Alva Cook and Oscar Carter, who preceded her in death. She was a retired private nurse and also worked in shipyard as a riveter in World War II.
She loved to cook, decorate cakes, sewing, quilting, gardening, traveling, fishing, camping and spending time with her family and three dogs. Dorothy was a member of the Eagles, VFW, American Legion and Order of the Eastern Star, 25-plus-year member.
She is survived by her daughter, Norma (Cook) Pierce, East Moline; son, James (Linda) Carter, Galveston, Texas; sister, Jean Wiens, East Moline; grandchildren, Vickie (Martin) Rodriguez, Leanna, Teresa and William (Krystal) Pierce Jr., all of East Moline, Diana (Melecio) Aguilar, Carbon Cliff, Danual Lewis (Roger Gower), Kelly Lewis, Dorothea Carter, James Edward (Kay) Carter, all of Galveston; great-grandchildren, Spc. Juan Diego Aguilera, Pfc. Jose Rodriguez Jr., Melisa Aguilar, Alex Rodriguez, Victoria Castillo, Cody Hamilton, William Pierce III, James R. and Kayla M. Gulley, James A. and Aubrey Carter; and beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; sisters, Lola and Billie; and brother, James Edward Burris.
