Robert (Bob) Dean Hook, age 81 years, a resident of Vienna, passed away Thursday morning, May 23, 2019, at his home.
Bob was the only son of Robert C. and Stella (Simpson) Hook.
He was born May 11, 1938 in Carbondale, Illinois.
Bob was united in marriage to Rosemary Pearce and together they shared over 63 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by his 3 children: Teri (Leo), Sheri, and Doug.
Also, he is survived by grandchildren; great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a grandson, Shon Robinson, and a son-in-law, Jon Robinson.
Bob attended Vienna Grade School and was a 1956 graduate of Vienna High School. He also attended the University of Illinois at Champaign. Bob worked for the city of Vienna from 1965-1969. He was then employed at the United States Penitentiary in Marion from 1969 until his retirement in 1992. He was a lifelong member of the Vienna volunteer fire department. Bob served as the second chief of the department for 36 years (from 1972-2008). He followed his father who was also fire chief for 36 years.
Bob was a member of the Vienna First Baptist Church.
A service honoring the life of Robert D. Hook will be conducted Sunday afternoon, May 26, 2019, at 2 PM at First Baptist Church, 301 North 7th St., Vienna, Illinois. Pastor Travis Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Saturday, May 25, 2019, from 5 PM – 8 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. An additional visitation will be conducted Sunday, May 26, 2019, from 1 PM – 2 PM at First Baptist Church, Vienna, Illinois.
A firefighter’s walk thru and bell ceremony will be conducted Saturday evening at 8 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
