Curtis “Mitch” Mitchell, 95, of Orange, Texas, passed away on May 23, 2019, at his home surrounded by loved ones.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 25, 2019, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Pastor David Millner, of Calvary Baptist Church in West Orange as well as Pastor Jeff Bell. Burial will follow at Orange Forest Lawn in West Orange.

Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m.

A native of Shelby County, Mitch was born in Joaquin, Texas, on March 1, 1924 to Willie B. Mitchell and Bertha (Blankenship) Mitchell. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII and went on to move to Orange in 1947. Mitch worked as a Maintenance Mechanic with DuPont Sabine River Works in Orange and retired in 1981 after 34 years of loyal service. He was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in West Orange. Mitch loved to spend time at his favorite spot, Mill Creek, on Lake Sam Rayburn fishing and camping. He enjoyed playing 42 and watching the children in his neighborhood play and enjoy their days. He loved his family dearly and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Bertha Mitchell; brother, Billy Joe Mitchell; sister, Doris Nation; and his grandson, Gentry Mitchell.

Mitch is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Marie Mitchell; sons, Jerry Mitchell and wife Donna, of Rockdale and Curtis “Buster” Mitchell and wife Karen, of Conroe; grandchildren, Michael Mitchell and wife Geri, of Dear Park, Todd Mitchell and wife Belinda, of Spring, and Mesha Allen and husband Kevin, of Spring; 9 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Marion Riley, of Center.

Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Mitchell, Todd Mitchell, Kevin Allen, and Mike Shugart.
