Widow of Dr. Francis M. Woods (of Jaffrey, NH, formerly of Wellesley, died of pneumonia December 23rd, 2006, at North Hill, Needham, surrounded by her six children: Kit Fairchild, Belchertown, David Woods, Washington, D.C., Carol Gehlbach, Amherst, Heather Ames, Jaffrey, NH, Robert Woods, Sudbury, Gail Woods, NYC. She was 96. She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and her sister Carol Tuttle of State College, PA. Mrs. Woods will long be remembered for her devotion to family, her lifelong passion for flower arranging and gardening, and her active involvement in civic and church activities. She was a member of the Monadnock Garden Club, arranged flowers for the Congregational Church and Amos Fortune Forum in Jaffrey Center, hosted numerous international students, and worked to provide housing for Cambodian and Vietnamese refugee families. She served on the board of the Walker Missionary Home and was an active and loyal alumna of Wellesley College. Born August 31, 1910 to David and Edith (Russell) Richie, a Philadelphia Quaker family, she graduated from Westtown Friends School in 1928 and Wellesley College in 1932. After her marriage in 1934, she and her husband lived in Rochester, NY, and Cincinnati, Ohio, before moving in 1946 to the Boston area. They became summer residents of Jaffrey, NH, in 1948 and year-round residents in 1975. In 1990, they were jointly named Jaffrey's Citizens of the Year.

There will be a memorial meeting held at Wellesley Friends Meeting, 26 Benvenue St., Wellesley, on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2006 at 2 P.M. A second memorial service will be held next summer in Jaffrey, NH.
