Jackie Lee Bowman, 85, of Iowa Falls, died on Wednesday April 24, 2019, at Hansen Family Hospital, Iowa Falls. Private burial.
Jack was an outstanding athlete. He played football, basketball, and baseball throughout high school, and played fast pitch softball after that.
Shortly after marrying Mary, he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He earned expert rifleman honors and later trained other Marines.
The first of four children came along, but he continued other activities. He began stock car racing at Carmel track, moved to drag racing, and later snowmobile racing and riding motorcycles to Sturgis, South Dakota. Professionally he used his mechanical skills, as there was never a machine made that he couldn't repair or maintain, but the pressure plate on a 1960 Volkswagen gave him a good go.
In retirement he enjoyed fishing in Minnesota with friends and family, Doug, Linda, Katie & Ben Bowman, Kurt, Judy, Greg and Laura Bowman, Dawn and Bud Crosser, Linette, Joel, and Kayla Worsfold. He spent a lot of time at the family farm in Owasa and enjoyed his winters in South Texas and Florida.
He was always available to help no matter what I needed (especially fixing my broken car mirrors before Joel found out). Driving to Fort Dodge for State Softball to support Mercedes and spend time with Nolan being the best softball "cheerleader."
He enjoyed Sunday evening suppers in Eldora with Bud, Dawn, and Jiggs.
He enjoyed life and always made time to have a beer and talk about old times. P.S. he will always be known for making the best darn Bloody Marys in Hardin County.
