MAN DROWNS IN SEPTIC TANK
LITTLE SILVER--Wilbert Lawrence Goins, 28, of 141 Cherry st., New Shrewsbury, was drowned about 3:50 p.m. Sunday in a septic tank on which he had been working. Police Sgt. James W. Fix, who dove into the tank to remove Goins, said the man apparently had been overcome by gas when he removed the septic tank's cover and fell through the opening. The death occurred at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Huhn of 17 South Vale ave. Goins was employed by Silverside Construction, Inc. He and Mr. Huhn had been trying to open up a clogged line between the septic tank and the house. Mr. Huhn was using a "snake" from inside the house while Mr. Goins tried to break up the clog from the other end of the pipe. Mr. Huhn went outside to see how the job was progressing and discovered that Goins had slipped through the tank's opening. He summoned police. Members of the first aid squad unsuccessfully administered artificial respiration. The man was pronounced dead by Dr. John D. Powers. Surviving are the widow, Thelma Goins; two daughters, Dolores and Crystal; his parent, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Goins of Oak Hill, Va., a sister, Mrs. Nettie Miller
of boomer, West Va., and three brothers, Leonard Goins of New Shrewsbury, Nathaniel Goins of Harlem Heights, West Va., and John Goins of Carbondale, West Va. An Army veteran of the Korean war, he was awarded a Purple Heart medal and the Korean service medal.
