Per John's wishes he has donated his body to the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. Memorials may be directed to Prairie City United Methodist Church or the Prairie City Ambulance.
The son of Lionel Eugene and Mary (Renz) Doolittle, John was born on August 29, 1943, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. On September 18, 1966, John was united in marriage to Sharon Blood in Altoona. He was a member of the Prairie City United Methodist Church. Following his retirement, John stayed active volunteering with Hospice, Blank Children's Hospital and the Neil Smith Wildlife Refuge. He also enjoyed playing pool, boating and camping.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Sharon; children, Lynn (Scot) Edler of Edinburg, Texas, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Doolittle of Algona, Iowa and Cheryl (Mark) Kimball of Prairie City; 11 grandchildren; a step grandchild and a brother, Clark "Jack" "Doc" Doolittle of Wyoming. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Ann Doolittle.
