William "Willie" Garcia
Mr. William “Willie” Garcia, 81, resident of Gainesville, Florida, died Monday, May 20, 2019 in the Shands Hospital at the University of Florida.
Mr. Garcia was born in Manati, Puerto Rico on February 9, 1938 to the late Juan and Loretta Garcia, and moved to New York City as a child. He drove a yellow cab in the city for over 40 years, until his retirement in 2006, when he moved to Gainesville. He attended Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Mr. Garcia was a lifelong Mets fan, and enjoyed playing cards and dominoes with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Victor Garcia.
He is survived by his wife, Guillermina Soler Garcia, of Gainesville; three daughters, Lourdes Garcia, of Ft. Meyers, FL, Magali Garcia of Manati, PR and Nellie Garcia, of Gainesville; one son, William Garcia, of Manati, PR; one sister, Milagros Garcia, of New Jersey. Ten grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at 9:30 A. M., at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 10900 SW 24th Avenue, with Fr. Al Esposito, celebrant. Interment will follow in Saint Madeleine Catholic Cemetery, High Springs. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 5, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., with a Rosary service to begin at 6:30 p.m., at Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Westarea, 823 NW 143rd S
