He was born Jan. 25, 1963, in Springfield, the only son of Howard and Mary (Tuomisto) Barton. He married Susan Wallace Barton on June 10, 1995.
He graduated in 1981 from Black River High School where he excelled as a downhill skier for the Okemo Mountain Racing Team, a goalie for Black River High School soccer and a pitcher for their baseball team. He had four years of electrical school through the State of Vermont and had gone to the University of New Hampshire for management.
He worked as a lineman and assistant superintendent for the Village of Ludlow Electric Light Department for over 35 years. He was an alternate member of Vermont Public Power Supply Authority (VPPSA).
He was a selectman for the Town of Ludlow for over 21 years and spent 15 years as chairman of the board. He also served the town as a cemetery commissioner and spent over 20 years on the Ludlow Fire Department where he was chosen to be one of their captains. Also, he served on the Fletcher Farm Foundation and was a member of the Church of Annunciation.
He is survived by his parents Howard and Mary Barton; sisters Sheila Barton and Marcia Dockum; his niece and nephews; and by the loves of his life, Susan Wallace Barton and his daughters Alexandra and Morgan Barton, from Ludlow.
He had a passion for making his children happy by loving and supporting them at their many soccer, basketball and softball games, as well as their educational achievements. He enjoyed biking, weightlifting, kayaking, decorating the house with Christmas lights and eating ice cream. Howard made his family and pets his number one priority and he will be missed by many.
