U.S. Congressman. Born in Knoxville, Tennessee, he graduated from Vanderbilt University, 1961 and served as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps, (1962-65). He was a Tennessee State commissioner of personnel, (1970-72) and a delegate to Tennessee State Republican convention, in 1972. In 1973, he was elected as a Republican to the Ninety-third Congress and to the next four succeeding Congresses, serving until 1983. Not a candidate for reelection, he was a assistant secretary general for defense support, NATO, Brussels, (1984-87, 92-95) and president of an import-export company in Washington, D.C. He died from the brain tumor at age 67 in Charleston, South Carolina.
