Mr. John W. Caraway, age 78, of Vidalia, died Tuesday, May 21, 2019, in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia, after an extended illness. He was a native of Dade County, Florida, and lived there until moving to Toombs County in 1973. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, retired from Piggly Wiggly Southern as a truck driver, and was Baptist by faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Jean High Caraway; parents, J.D. and Margaret Virginia Wilcher Caraway; two sisters, Eddie Todd and Virginia Spainhour; and three brothers, Oliver Caraway, Vernon “Pete” Caraway, and Edwin Caraway.

Mr. Caraway is survived by three children, Darlene Caraway of Vidalia, Vickie NeeSmith and husband “Pepper” of Vidalia, and Zelda Powell and husband Kelvin of the Johnson Corner Community; one brother, Donald Caraway and wife Beverly of Reidsville; three sisters, Betty Jones of Mt. Vernon, Linda Todd and husband Johnny, and Mary Grantham, both of Florida; ten grandchildren, Ashley Odom and husband James, Melody Williamson, Craig Conrad, Allison Conrad, Cassandra Williamson, Tanner Roberts, Raylee NeeSmith, Jeffery NeeSmith, Dusty Conrad, Richard Odom, and Ella Stephens; one great-grandson, Dusty Conrad; several nieces and nephews; and family friends, Andy Peavey, Chris Young, Laney Tatum and Thomas Stephens.

A memorial service will be held at later.
