Mr. James Melvin Yarbrough, age 89, of Rockmart, GA passed away at his home Tuesday, May 21, 2019.

He was born in Aragon, GA on January 26, 1930, son of the late Albert M. Yarbrough, Sr. and the late Betty Irene Caldwell Yarbrough. He had lived in Polk County the greater part of his life. Mr. Yarbrough served our country in the National Guard, United States Army, and Army Reserves. He was a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church and a member of the Men's Sunday School Class. He was a member of Rockmart Lodge #97 F & AM for over fifty years and held the position of Worshipful Master in 1986. He was also a member of the Low 12 Club, Royal Arch Masons Post High Priest, Slate City Shrine Club, Eastern Star #321, and the West Georgia Masonic Memorial Club. He retired from General Motors after 31 years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Scoggins Yarbrough; five sisters: Velma Durham, Margaret Yarbrough, Frances Yarbrough, Mildred Warren, and Geneva Yarbrough; six brothers: Carl Yarbrough, J. P. Yarbrough, Johnny Yarbrough, Glenn Yarbrough, Albert M. Yarbrough, Jr. and Talmadge Yarbrough.

Survivors include his two daughters: Cathy Jo Williams and her husband Ron, Summerville and Susan Yarbrough, Rockmart; two grandchildren: Brandy Salmon and husband Brian and Buffy Jo Williams; three great-grandchildren: Caylen and Colton Teems and Agan Salmon; a sister, Martha Kell, Douglasville; numerous nieces and nephews; his dog C C and special friends Roy & Diane.Swift.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 24, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Ritch and the Rev. Dr. Larry Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the Flint Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with Danny Goddard officiating and Masonic Graveside Rites by West Georgia Masonic Memorial Club and Military Graveside Rites by American Legion Brown-Wright Post #12 Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will include: Eric Brumbelow, James Davenport, Dink Yarbrough, Brad Yarbrough, Chuck Yarbrough and Robby Scoggins. Honorary pallbearers will include: Roy and Diane Swift, Judy McDowell, Geneva Johnson, Tim Yarbrough, Luke Scoggins, Randy and Tangi George, Rockmart Lodge #97 F & AM, and the nurses of Tapestry Hospice .

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 until 8 PM at the funeral home.
